Recently, train travel has become my favorite mode of transport. Here are my top train journeys so far:

Indonesia: Train travel accross Java island from west to east. We started the journey in Jakarta. We stopped by Cirebon (day trip), Semarang (2 nights), Surabaya (4 nights) and Banyuwangi (2 nights) before crossing to the Bali island.

Tunisia: Train travel between Northern Tunisia and Southern Tunisia. The journey started in Tunis and I stopped by Sousse (and a non-train trip to Kairouan), Monastir and Gabes. I returned back to Tunis with a direct 7 hour-long train trip.

Thailand: Train travel between Bangkok and Nong Khai near Laos border. The journey takes around 8-9 hours. We took the 1st class sleeper trains for this route and it was very confortable. We also used train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and between Bangkok-Surat Thani. They took around 9-10 hours each. Between Bangkok-Surat Thani, we used 2nd class sleeper train which was ok. The route Bangkok-Chiang Mai is the most popular route in Thailand and I recommend booking it in advance.
